What to read and watch. Guide to gratefulness

A talk by Br. David Steindl Rast the Benedictine monk and interfaith scholar, on what, exactly, it means to be grateful—and the worlds that gratefulness can open up to us.
David Steindl-Rast: Want to be happy? Be grateful ”
He points out that one thing we all have in common is a desire to be happy, and posits that gratefulness is the way we get there. In this talk, Steindl-Rast offers a simple process for living gratefully: stop, look and go. Instead of rushing through life,

MOOORRE POWWEERRRR! (in the form of socail media)

Andy Cherry Illustrates

Okay, just a quick one before I head out of the door; I started a Twitter feed today! I don’t really know how to use it, or what it’s for, but I’m pretty sure I’ll work it out!

So, you can find me…@ARCIllustrates…is what to look for, and I suggest you do, because it could be really really good…or it might not be, but if you don’t follow me, you’ll never know!

In the meantime, have a mask 🙂

Mirror, mirror on the wall

People Stuff

Today I heard a great presentation from Rob Jones of Crossrail. He was talking about his organisation’s experience with social media, and he said something important for anyone looking to introduce or develop social media within their own company. He said this: social media tools won’t change your culture. It is not a miracle cure all for your organisational ills.

My own experience tells me this is true.

If you have a culture now that doesn’t value team work, social media won’t change this. If you have a culture adverse to risk, inflexible in the face of change or unwilling to share, social media cannot sweep this away overnight.

If you have employees that routinely complain, then they will complain about social media too, or they’ll complain through it. The same people who used to say they haven’t time to read your emails, the monthly newsletter, check out your intranet…

Online petition calls for Calgary school boards to call a snow day

NTA News

The blizzard earlier this week created chaos on Calgary streets, from impassible snow drifts to transit buses being stuck in intersections (for many hours).

A petition was created a few days ago stating that school boards should call a snow day event if conditions during winter storms like this get worse.

It states that by not shutting down schools, it’s “putting many students at risk”.

The petition has reached 1,185 signatures at the time of publishing and has since been closed to further signing.

Many students also took to Twitter and other social media to express their anger against the school board’s decision.
